Lived Experience
I know how important it can be to feel like you can relate to your therapist, trying to find that common ground can be the difference in heading in a meaningful and purposeful direction.
The professional boundaries and the ethics have made talk therapy appear very one-directional, and you are right. However, I do maintain strong professional boundaries and ethics; but the evidence is changing and what I can reassure you is that if it is appropriate self-disclosure is something I offer if it helps build that trust.
I know what living a life without, meaning, purpose, direction and connection is like. I know what unimaginable pain feels like, and I know the lengths it can push someone to get rid of that. If you are like me, then I get it... I also know that nothing worked, the alcohol didn't work, the drugs didn't work and even trying to end it all; did not work.
So, I have lived experience with:
Mental health, Substance abuse, Natural Disasters, Domestic Violence, Chronic Pain, PTSD and CPTSD and Attachment.
So Why Me?
"Can you tell I didn't do a marketing degree?"
What I can offer you, is a safe, kind and compassionate space to explore the depths of Evidenced Based Talk Therapy. I aim to be neuro-affirming and a strong ally.
I have expertise in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) but I also know that not one model fits all. Regardless, you need to know that I believe that 'You are the expert of your life' and what I mean is that you know you best, you know what will and won't work for you and with that you have autonomy and control. I also recognise my Pākeha privilege and stand as Tangata Te Tiriti.
Hey, I wish I could say "Work with me and I can guarantee all your pain and suffering will go away" trust me I wish I had that skill and ability and not to mention audacity.
So, I'm not going to promise you that; I also can't promise that working with me will fix all your life's difficulties, and if people are offering you that I invite you to run.
Other Cool Stuff To Know About Me
I was born and raised in Manchester, England until my parents brought me to Aotearoa when I was nine years old.
Before I found my calling in mental health and addictions work, I was an industrial electrician. I’m married, and we share our home with our beautiful dog, Marshmallow, and two bunnies. My interests include digital and board gaming, guitar, gym training, and seasonal photography and gardening. I used to play a lot of football before a serious injury, but I still miss the game.
I Think That's Everything
If you’ve made it this far; Thank you.
Maybe something here resonated, or maybe you’re just curious. Either way, I’d love to meet you where you’re at and explore what healing and growth could look like together.
